Global Solar Power

Since we are all on this planet together, Sun's Eye Power installs solar systems around the world in an effort to help alleviate the need to build more coal fired power plants and provide electricity to those who need it the most. See our latest project below.

The UN says a minimum requirement to move out of poverty is access to energy and clean water. As many a two billion people lack these basic needs. Solar power provides one of the solutions to this problem. Most energy in the poor areas of developing countries comes from wood and kerosene. Providing electricity using the sun can prevent deforestation and promote energy independence from costly petroleum imports or dirty coal.

Sun's Eye Power has teamed up with non profit organizations like Rotary International, the Northwest Solar Group, and the Solar Electric Light Fund to provide solar power solutions to meet real needs. We work together to install durable long lasting solutions.

Sun's Eye Power develops training programs for local technicians and communities so that they may maintain their systems and can start small solar businesses installing clean energy.

If you have thought that you too can make a difference, then contact us to find out how you can join in this effort to bring clean power to places that are most in need. If you know a community with serious energy needs, contact us about working together to provide a solar solution.

Our Latest Project: Nicaragua in 2011

Access to clean water and electrical lighting has proved to greatly increase social, economic and health conditions in developing communities. The current project will provide a PV (Solar) powered electric system in seven rural health clinics in Nicaragua. The solar electric system will provide lighting for the clinic, AC power for charging communication devices, and a solar powered chlorine generating unit to disinfect contaminated drinking water for the community.

This project will be implemented in 7 communities with a total of 2,764 beneficiaries. Project partners also include the Nicaraguan based NGO AMOS, Always On Solar and the Rotary.

We will also train both representatives of the participating communities, health clinics and local NGO's to facilitate maintenance of the systems. Our target date for completion of the project is by the end of 2011. Details will be coming soon on the Always On Solar website. (www.alwaysonsolar.org)

Our Previous Projects in 2010: Ghana, Lesotho and Benin

We installed solar power for water pumping systems in two villages in Northern Ghana in April 2010. This was a joint project of Always On Solar and World Vision. We did extensive training for representatives from each community and the staff at World Vision's Ghana Rural Water Project. Since each community owns its power plant and pumping system, we provided the training capacity so that the systems can be maintained and give years of clean water. The completed project provides the power plant, pump, water delivery system, and the necessary training for $62.00 per person served. To find out how it all unfolded, please check out the blog. )

We installed three similar water pumping system in Benin in December for two villages, and installed three new solar pv systems and upgraded seven solar pv systems on remote medical clinics in Lesotho in South Africa in April. Both of these were projects through Solar Electric Light Fund (www.self.org). In Benin we provided the local women's groups with water for their gardens; producing and selling vegetables is a new source of income for them. In Lesotho SELF worked with Partners in Health (www.pih.org). PHP has started and run medical clinics all over the world. Their focus in on the poor. New information on these installations will be coming soon on our blog!

Possibilities for solar in the developing world:

Water Pumping: Solar power to pump water is one the most efficient uses of solar power. The sun shines and powers a pump for irrigation which can increase crop yield and help farmers earn more for their crops. No batteries are needed, no power lines, no monthly bills. Local ownership and control become the norm. We can help communities meet their water needs.

Water Purification: Solar power can be used to zap dirty water with UV light to kill bacteria and other harmful substances. This application can spawn small water purification and bottling companies that can sell clean water to supplement a community's income.

Heath Care: Solar systems are great for powering remote clinics and keeping vaccines refrigerated in areas where there is no power is available. It can be used to run centrifuges and other blood testing equipment at remote AIDS clinics where normal testing could not be carried out. This can save lives.

Lighting: Schools can now have lights to hold evening classes. This is a tremendous boost for rural communities where folks must work in the fields during the day. Now night classes can help advance the community.

Home Lighting: For less than a family spends on kerosene, candles, or wood we can provide solar powered lights for a home allowing students do study at night and the women to start small home based businesses.
